Technical colleges are experiencing high levels of annual turnover and retirement among faculty, staff,
and administrators. Job satisfaction among employees in these institutions is therefore of vital
importance to leadership that must increasingly work to understand and address factors of job
satisfaction and turnover.
Two-year technical colleges in the United States have been established for many years, and are noted
for their open admissions policy (Van Ast, 1999). These institutions have a much different philosophy
from many four-year institutions, and some of the differences can lead to dissatisfaction among the
ranks, and ultimately lead to costly voluntary turnover within the institutions (Rosser & Townsend, 2006).
