The conversations about body and sexuality acting inside the societal norms and outside has been widely discussed and explored within literary works. The paper entitled “Transgressional Gender Aporias in the Novels of Abdulrazak Gurnah’s focus on his two works, Memory of Departure and Paradise and how the characters and their roles dwell in conflicts particularly adhering to the rules of the heteronormative and patriarchal African society. Individuals when restricted inside the societal norms continuously try to enforce their roles and identities especially through new spaces and how these paths turned out in carving a niche for them and otherwise is focused on this paper. The ambivalences and ambiguities when trying to reach out new changes and challenging the established rules makes the characters go paradoxical and how they are being caught in deadlocks is represented in Gurnah’s novels. The recent developments in gender and sex, gender identities and the deviants in gender groups makes his selected works researchable and decodable in the present scenario.
